Overview
- The crash, which occurred Sunday around 9:30 pm on the Hume Highway at Villawood, split a sedan in two and set the wreckage on fire.
- Police said the rear half of the sedan struck a westbound Toyota Corolla, and the 24-year-old sedan driver was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with suspected fractures and burns.
- The 48-year-old Corolla driver was taken to Liverpool Hospital for assessment after debris hit his car.
- The impact snapped a power pole and brought down power lines, closing both directions for about four hours before lanes reopened overnight and traffic fully resumed by about 7 am Monday.
- Reports identified the torn vehicle as a BMW, and police said the remaining wreckage came to rest about 200 metres from the pole.
