Human Remains Recovered From River Taw in Search for Missing Teen

Formal identification of the recovered remains is pending.

Overview

  • Officers were called to the River Taw near Sticklepath at about 4.20pm on June 24 and recovered suspected human remains from the water.
  • Police have notified and are supporting the family of 15-year-old Taylor Charlton while specialist teams begin identification and forensic examinations.
  • A 20-year-old man who was arrested on June 12 on suspicion of murder has been released on police bail as enquiries remain active.
  • The recovery follows a six-week search by police and local volunteer teams after Taylor was last seen on CCTV near a footpath by Tarka Leisure Centre on May 8, when he was recorded heading toward the river.
  • Devon and Cornwall Police say there will continue to be a police presence at the river as investigators carry out post-mortem and forensic work and appeal to the public to avoid speculation.
