Overview
- Search crews discovered human remains in the Palomar Mountain area and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has taken charge of the investigation.
- Oceanside Police Department said the remains are not currently believed to be connected to the disappearance of 44-year-old Angelica Brophy and that their missing-person case remains open.
- Brophy was last seen at a Valley Center resort and investigators shifted the search to the eastern San Diego highlands after finding her unoccupied vehicle in a state park parking lot.
- Multiple agencies have joined the search work, including the sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, a California State Parks dive team, U.S. Border Patrol and federal and local canine units, but targeted searches based on new leads have not located Brophy.
- Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Oceanside Police Detective Ryan Malone at (760) 435-4537 or the anonymous tip line at (760) 435-4730 as forensic identification of the remains continues under the sheriff’s office.
