Overview
- The four-part series Welcome to the Family: The Murder of Dan Markel premiered on Hulu on September 1, 2026 and drops all episodes at launch.
- Markel, a Florida State University law professor, was fatally shot in his Tallahassee garage in July 2014 in what prosecutors say was a murder-for-hire tied to a bitter custody fight.
- Prosecutors say the plot linked members of his ex-wife Wendi Adelson’s family to intermediaries and hitmen; multiple defendants have been prosecuted over more than a decade.
- Several key defendants were convicted or pleaded guilty: Sigfredo Garcia received life without parole, Luis Rivera pleaded to a reduced charge and cooperated, Katherine Magbanua was later convicted, and Charlie and Donna Adelson were each found guilty and sentenced to life plus additional terms.
- The series, produced by Curious Films for ABC News Studios, features new interviews and audio from investigators and people tied to the family and could revive public attention but it does not change court judgments or sentences.
