Hudson Man Accused of Killing Grandmother With Skateboard Held Without Bail After Arraignment

A judge ordered a mental health evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital to assess the defendant’s competency.

Overview

  • The case, which erupted Tuesday with 911 calls from a Munson Street home, now has 29-year-old Devin Dube held without bail and sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for a competency evaluation.
  • Prosecutors say Dube struck his 90-year-old grandmother, Elaine Dube, with a skateboard in her basement apartment and also injured his father and sister; she died at UMass Memorial Medical Center and they were treated and released.
  • Police said Dube fled before officers arrived and was found about 45 minutes later hiding in a van on nearby Tower Street, where he was arrested without incident.
  • He is charged with murder and multiple counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, including charges tied to a victim over 60, and he is due back in court April 17 for a probable cause hearing.
  • A court psychologist testified Dube has schizophrenia and has not been taking medication, investigators are still seeking the skateboard believed to be the weapon, and officials said the domestic incident poses no ongoing public threat.
