Overview
- The Commission for the Megalopolis said Thursday that vehicles with green engomado, holograms 1 or 2 and plate endings 1 or 2 are banned from 05:00 to 22:00 across Mexico City and the 18 adjacent State of Mexico municipalities.
- Authorities confirmed there is no active environmental contingency and no Doble Hoy No Circula in force, but they monitor the IMECA index and can trigger Fase 1 above 150 points or Fase 2 above 200 points.
- Vehicles exempt from the restriction include those with holograms 00 and 0, electric and hybrid cars, motorcycles, public transport, emergency vehicles and cars with disability plates.
- Drivers who break the rule face fines of 20 to 30 UMA (about 2,346 to 3,519 pesos) and possible vehicle impoundment during enforcement operations.
- The program covers the 16 Mexico City boroughs and the ZMVM municipalities and aims to cut tailpipe pollution while encouraging use of Metro, Metrobús and ECOBICI when a car is restricted.
