Overview
- The fire began at about 2:45 a.m. Thursday when crews arrived to heavy flames at a single-story house in the 3500 block of Avenue J and launched an interior search.
- Firefighters found two people inside; a man was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman was removed and airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.
- Responders described the residence as a hoarder home, saying stacked belongings blocked doorways and windows and increased heat, which made searches and firefighting much harder.
- Two Fort Worth firefighters suffered heat-related injuries while conducting rescues and fighting the blaze and were taken to hospital with injuries officials expect them to recover from.
- Arson investigators have been deployed and the cause remains under active investigation while authorities withhold victim identities pending family notification.
