House Finch Tops Feeder Lists in Colorado and Oregon, Stacker Snapshot Shows

The rankings come from volunteer feeder counts and a percent-of-sites method that produce a short-term presence snapshot rather than long-term trend data.

Overview

Stacker compiled state lists from Cornell Lab of Ornnithology’s Project FeederWatch using feeder-count data collected Apr. 18 to Apr. 30.
The lists used observations from 197 count sites in Colorado and 178 count sites in Oregon to build the rankings.
House Finch was the most seen species in Colorado, recorded at 82% of Colorado feeder sites, and in Oregon, recorded at 72% of Oregon feeder sites.
State-specific highlights include Anna’s Hummingbird at number two in Oregon with visits to 70% of sites and Northern Flicker appearing at 56% of Colorado sites.
Project FeederWatch began in 1976 and now has more than 20,000 volunteer participants whose data are used by scientists to track bird presence and encourage public engagement.
