Hot Toys’ Young Ahsoka Figure Draws Criticism Over Costume and Likeness

The release revives a long-running debate over sexualized designs for a character portrayed as very young.

Overview

  • Hot Toys, which revealed the 1/6-scale collectible on Monday’s Star Wars Day, used actress Ariana Greenblatt’s photorealistic likeness for a Clone Wars–era Ahsoka Tano.
  • The figure puts that likeness in Ahsoka’s original 2008 padawan outfit of a tube top and short skirt, a look later dropped as inappropriate for a character depicted as about 14.
  • Fans on social media condemned the choice and, in some posts, alleged the sculpt enlarges Greenblatt’s chest, noting the actress never wore this costume in live action.
  • The product is already on sale in a reported run of 2,500 units, and coverage says complaints have redirected attention from Hot Toys’ other Star Wars reveals rather than stopping this one.
  • Lucasfilm later revised Ahsoka’s early look in animation and in Greenblatt’s flashback scenes to cover more skin, reflecting design changes that Dave Filoni has said George Lucas helped shape.
