Overview

  • The North Runway returned to service on Oct 28 after salvage work concluded the previous night, with more than 20 flights using it by 7 a.m., according to Flightradar24.
  • Salvage crews lifted the main fuselage, tail and other sections of the Boeing 747 freighter operated by Turkey-based ACT Airlines using heavy-lift barges, sonar mapping and divers.
  • The flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder were retrieved earlier and sent to a laboratory for examination.
  • Hong Kong’s air accident investigation authority is leading the probe with participation from the U.S. NTSB, Turkey’s Transport Safety Investigation Center and Boeing, and a preliminary report is due within about a month.
  • The aircraft veered off the runway on Oct 20, struck a patrol car and entered the sea, killing two airport security workers while the four crew members were uninjured.
