Home Explosion Forces Evacuation of Dixon Mobile Home Park

Nicor Gas crews will relight service at each dwelling one at a time and clear the park before residents are allowed to return.

Overview

  • The blast occurred in the 1500 block of Estates Road in the Chateau Estates mobile home park on Monday morning and prompted an immediate evacuation of the entire community.
  • Authorities evacuated 106 addresses, about 300 to 400 people, and set up an emergency shelter at Reagan Middle School while Anchor Road was closed for the response.
  • One person who was inside the exploded manufactured home was taken to OSF St. Katherine Medical Center with significant injuries and remains hospitalized.
  • Dixon police and Nicor Gas reported elevated gas readings at the scene and said Nicor crews must restore and light gas service at each home with a resident present before re-entry is allowed.
  • Investigators have not identified a cause and will examine utility lines and appliances as crews complete safety checks, so residents should expect delays and to be present when crews arrive to relight service.
