Holyroodhouse to Open Queen Elizabeth II’s Private Rooms for 100 Days in 2026

The Royal Collection Trust will run small guided tours for the centenary, with priority booking on 9 March followed by general sale on 12 March.

Overview

  • Tours run daily from 21 May to 10 September 2026, marking the late Queen’s 1926 birth centenary with first‑ever public access to her private apartments in Edinburgh.
  • Visitors will see the Dressing Room, Sitting Room and Royal Breakfast Room, spaces the Queen and Prince Philip used during stays at the monarch’s official Scottish residence.
  • Displays include three Edinburgh‑worn ensembles—among them the Sandra Murray outfit from the 1999 Scottish Parliament opening and a 1997 beaded evening gown—plus works from Prince Philip’s Scottish art collection.
  • Tickets cost £61 for Royal Collection Trust email subscribers on 9 March, then £71 in advance or £75 on the day from 12 March, and must be purchased in addition to standard Palace admission (£22 advance, £26 on the day).
  • Groups are capped and guided, with the 17th‑century east‑side suite overlooking the gardens and Holyrood Park presented as ‘lived‑in’ rooms used by successive monarchs since Queen Victoria.
