Holt McCallany to Lead Noir Thriller Hyde, Now Filming in Bucharest

Graham and Parker Phillips are directing from their own script and say Bucharest’s architecture will help shape the film’s decayed, noir mood.

Overview

  • Principal photography for Hyde is underway in Bucharest with Holt McCallany starring as Detective Grimes, a haunted investigator hunting a brutal serial killer.
  • Nathalie Emmanuel plays Detective Doran, an officer assigned to shadow Grimes, while Bruce Greenwood appears as Henry Monroe, Grimes’s mandated therapist, and David Harewood plays Lieutenant Robert Malloy.
  • The brothers Graham and Parker Phillips wrote and are directing Hyde and are producing through their Phillips Pictures banner alongside producers Jason Tamasco and Zak Kristofek for Traction.
  • Producers and the filmmakers have publicly praised the assembled cast and said they chose Bucharest both for practical production reasons and for the city’s atmosphere, which they call tailor-made for the film’s tone.
  • The project is framed as an auteur-led, noir-tinged thriller following the Phillips’ earlier work and could raise profiles for the cast while adding to the recent trend of U.S. productions using Eastern European cities for moody, low-cost shooting locations.
