HMRC Writes to 21-Year-Olds About Unclaimed Child Trust Funds

The drive seeks to help young adults access starter savings they may not know exist.

  • HMRC is sending letters to thousands of 21-year-olds with unclaimed Child Trust Funds worth about £2,200 on average.
  • The Government says more than 750,000 of these accounts remain unclaimed.
  • People can use the free Find my Child Trust Fund service on gov.uk to identify their provider.
  • CTFs were set up for those born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011 and the money becomes available at 18.
  • Economic Secretary Lucy Rigby met providers this week to push faster reconnection and access to funds held with banks and building societies.
