Hindustan Unilever to Cut MRPs on Soaps, Shampoos and Foods From Sept. 22

Government rules allow MRP changes on unsold stock through December 2025 with public disclosures.

Overview

  • HUL said new MRPs take effect on September 22 and that revised-price packs are being dispatched to retailers.
  • Examples include Dove shampoo 340 ml at Rs 435 from Rs 490 and a four-pack of 75 gm Lifebuoy soaps at Rs 60 from Rs 68.
  • Other listed cuts include Horlicks 200 gm at Rs 110 from Rs 130 and Kissan Jam 200 gm at Rs 80 from Rs 90, with additional sizes reported such as Dove 180 ml at Rs 145, Lux 100 gm at Rs 30, Kissan Jam 500 gm at Rs 140 and Horlicks 1 kg at Rs 350.
  • The reductions follow the GST Council’s September 3 decision to lower rates and simplify slabs to 5%, 18% and 40%, which takes effect on September 22.
  • Government guidance permits stickering or stamping revised MRPs on unsold inventory until December 31, 2025, requires the original price to remain visible, and mandates at least two newspaper notices plus notifications to dealers and officials.
