Himachal CM Unveils Rs 250-Crore Manali Riverfront, Launches Projects at Winter Carnival

Overview

• Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a riverfront development in Manali with a budget of Rs 250 crore during the inauguration of the Manali Winter Carnival 2026.
• He flagged off nearly 300 tableaux at the carnival and detailed new measures for visitor facilities, flood protection and landslide prevention in and around Manali.
• Eight projects worth about Rs 63.5 crore were inaugurated or launched, including PMGSY road upgrades, a 33/11 kV GIC power sub-station at Ibex Chowk, and a Rs 15-crore bridge over the Beas at Rangdi.
• Additional steps include five new Circuit House rooms, protective walls at seven locations, a Rs 2-crore parking facility in Old Manali, and Rs 25 lakh each for Solang and Karal villages to curb landslides.
• The state cited ongoing initiatives such as an eco-tourism policy with 11 sites allotted and 27 nearing allotment, 245 identified trekking routes with a mobile app in development, and larger projects like a Rs 619-crore zoological park at Bankhandi and a skywalk at Hassan Valley.
