Highguard Launches Raid Rush 5v5 as Player Counts Sink to New Lows

The pivot follows weeks of steep player losses after reported funding cuts that left a much smaller team.

Overview

  • Wildlight released Raid Rush on Feb. 26, a round-based 5v5 mode that removes looting and has teams alternate attacking and defending.
  • Players earn Vesper during rounds to buy upgrades from Trader Flynn, with identical armor that auto-upgrades each round and bases repaired between bouts.
  • Legacy 3v3 raids are disabled while Raid Rush is active, though 5v5 and Ranked 3v3 remain available.
  • The update delivers balance and QoL changes, including a Reviver Amulet nerf to 15% revive speed and weapon tweaks like a Vanguard accuracy reduction and Dynasty damage buff, plus a new Comeback Kill reward.
  • SteamDB shows concurrent players have fallen from a 97,000 peak to a few hundred, as reports say Tencent ended funding and layoffs reduced the studio from about 100 staff to fewer than 20.
