High Winds Lash North-Central Montana With Eastern Counties Still Under Warnings

Forecasters outline a quick cool-down now, a brief warm spell late week, then a cooler, showery turn early next week.

Overview

  • High Wind Warnings remain in effect for southern Blaine County, the Bear Paw Mountains, Fergus County, and southwestern Phillips County as gusty conditions hold on in the east while winds ease in western areas.
  • Peak gusts reached 45 to 65 mph in many spots with a few over 75 mph along the Rocky Mountain Front as a cold front pushed through and sent temperatures tumbling from the 60s into the 30s and 40s.
  • Scattered rain and snow showers are focused east of Interstate 15 and along the Hi-Line with little to no snow accumulation expected and overnight lows dipping into the 20s.
  • The next day trends cooler and mostly sunny, with only a light breeze around Helena and lingering stronger gusts possible in eastern portions of north-central Montana.
  • A weak disturbance late Wednesday night into Thursday could bring brief light rain or snow, followed by a warmer, sunnier Friday and Saturday before a new storm brings showers and cooler temperatures Sunday into Monday.
