High Winds Cut Power to Thousands Across Suffolk

UK Power Networks says engineers are restoring supplies using remote switching alongside on-site repairs.

Overview

  • More than 2,100 properties lost electricity across RAF Lakenheath, Stonham Aspal, Heveningham, Halesworth and Glemsford during Thursday’s blustery conditions.
  • Power has been largely restored in the Lakenheath area with about 45 homes still off, while roughly 240 customers remain without supply in Heveningham.
  • Network operators attribute the outages to faults on high-voltage overhead lines linked to the stormy weather.
  • Engineers in Halesworth shut off power after an overhead cable came down, and the public was advised to stay at least 10 metres from the line.
  • An earlier fault first reported at 10:38am affected parts of north Essex, where initial restoration was estimated for early afternoon under incident reference INCD-590477-Z.
