High-Value Hot Rods Stolen and Damaged in Joliet Hotel Lots

Authorities are urging the public to contact specialized auto-theft investigators with tips.

Overview

  • Police discovered multiple parked sports cars had been stolen or damaged in hotel lots in Joliet after officers responded to the Holiday Inn and later checked a nearby Comfort Inn where broken glass was found.
  • Investigators confirmed three Chevrolet Corvettes and one Chevrolet Camaro were stolen while a Chevrolet SS, a Dodge Challenger and another Camaro were damaged but not taken.
  • One of the stolen Corvettes was recovered after it was involved in a crash in Dolton and no arrests have been reported in connection with that recovery.
  • The investigation remains active and police have not released how the vehicles were taken or the full extent of the damage; anyone with information is asked to call the Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force at 815-724-4677 or Will County Crime Stoppers at 800-323-6734.
  • The cars were part of the Hot Rod Power Tour, an event that concentrates classic and performance vehicles overnight at hotels, which can raise theft risk and may lead organizers to tighten overnight security for future stops.
