Overview
- A contractor’s retroexcavator broke a 4-inch high-pressure Metrogas pipe on the Autopista Dellepiane, near the link with the Autopista 25 de Mayo, triggering a large gas leak.
- Firefighters from Bomberos de la Ciudad and Metrogas teams set a safety perimeter, deployed cisterns and a 38 mm hose line, and carried out controlled venting that was visible and audible several blocks away.
- Because the line was high pressure, technicians dug pits on both sides and used two presses to perform a prensado isolation that stops flow before a permanent repair can be made.
- The closure of the Dellepiane toward the city center produced hours-long congestion across Ricchieri, General Paz and other access routes on Thursday during peak travel times.
- By late evening Metrogas reported the leak was controlled, pressing work was underway or completed, traffic was later restored and authorities confirmed there were no injuries.
