HGV Overturns at Catthorpe as M6 Northbound Remains Closed

Recovery teams are carrying out load transfers, barrier repairs and resurfacing that have left the northbound carriageway closed while the southbound has reopened under lane restrictions.

Overview

  • A heavy goods vehicle hit the central reservation and overturned near the Catthorpe interchange, prompting a multi‑agency response and a police collision investigation that began after the crash on Sunday.
  • Emergency crews, including the Air Ambulance, treated a man at the scene and he was taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries.
  • National Highways and recovery crews have righted the HGV and are transferring its load into tipper trucks so the vehicle can be removed and damaged barriers and surfacing can be rebuilt.
  • Traffic management has released official diversion routes along the M1, A14 and A426 and the southbound carriageway has reopened with lane restrictions while the northbound remains closed with no firm reopening time.
  • Separate incidents on the M6 in Cheshire and Staffordshire and collisions on other motorways have added pressure to diversion routes and are prolonging delays for drivers in the region.
