HGV Driver Banned and Fined After A14 Rougham Drink-Driving Crash

Police say the case shows the risk when a heavy lorry is driven over the alcohol limit.

Overview

  • Lukasz Wojciechowski, who crashed on the A14 at Rougham on Friday, received a 16-month driving ban and £2,412 in fines and costs.
  • Officers arrested him at the scene after a failed roadside test, and an evidential breath reading of 46 microgrammes per 100 millilitres exceeded the 35 limit.
  • The westbound HGV struck the central reservation and entered the eastbound carriageway, and police said it was extremely lucky no other vehicles were hit.
  • The collision closed outside lanes in both directions, fully shut the eastbound side until about 9am, and partial reopening came around 1pm as National Highways repaired the barrier.
  • Police recorded the details of drivers who filmed the scene while passing and said fixed penalty notices will follow as enforcement against distracted driving.
