Hemlington Drug Gang Jailed for Murder of Innocent Man After E-Bike Revenge Attack

The sentences follow a cross-border manhunt that ended with the leader's extradition from France.

Overview

  • Newcastle Crown Court handed life sentences to Sidney Bashford, Oliver Connelly, Michael Charville and Ryan Moore, setting minimum terms of 28, 23, 20 and 22 years respectively.
  • Mr Justice Goss said Bashford used a knife to inflict the fatal wound and condemned the group’s retribution as cowardly.
  • The armed group stormed Jordan Hogg’s Hemlington flat while seeking a suspected e-bike thief, with forensic work showing a blade struck the door before the fatal attack inside the property.
  • After the February killing, arrests followed across March, including Bashford fleeing via Ireland before being detained in France and extradited to Heathrow on March 27.
  • Seventeen-year-old Kaiden McIver acted as a lookout and was sentenced to detention at His Majesty’s pleasure with a 16-year minimum term, as his counsel argued he had been exploited by the gang.
