Overview
- A house fire on Milwaukee’s north side killed 79-year-old Helen Dobson, whom relatives identified as the victim.
- Fire crews reached the home near N. 8th Street and W. Messmer Street, found heavy smoke on the first floor, and discovered a stove fire in the kitchen.
- Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found Dobson during their search, and officials said she was the only person inside.
- Authorities have not determined the cause, and Dobson’s brother said he thinks she may have fallen asleep while cooking, which is his account and not an official finding.
- Brother James Greer has been salvaging family belongings, says the house does not appear to be a total loss, and is staying in a hotel as he plans repairs.
