Overview
- Park officials closed and evacuated the entire Many Glacier Valley on June 29 after heavy rain caused Swiftcurrent Creek to rise and made hotels, campgrounds and trails unsafe.
- Going-to-the-Sun Road is shut through the park’s alpine corridor with closure points at Avalanche Creek on the west and Rising Sun on the east because of water, debris and rockfall hazards.
- Commercial boat tours and guided horseback operations in Many Glacier have been suspended for the duration of the closure while crews assess lakeshore and trail damage.
- The National Weather Service issued a prolonged rain and runoff warning that forecast 1–3 inches of mountain rain and warned of rockslides and rapid stream rises while some on‑the‑ground reports measured as much as 6 inches locally.
- Park staff are coordinating with federal partners such as the Federal Highway Administration to inspect roads and infrastructure and urge visitors to avoid closure points, not cross flooded areas, and check official updates before traveling.
