Overview
- Torrential, localized downpours caused rapid flooding in parts of Killarney overnight, forcing road closures including the N22 at the bottom of Pike Hill and flooding on Park Road and Countess Road.
- Emergency crews from Kerry County Council, Killarney Fire Service and Civil Defence worked through the night and were stood down after acute flooding substantially receded and key roads were cleared.
- Kerry County Council said it will carry out assessments of properties and businesses to quantify damage, with Director of Climate Action Paul Neary overseeing the inspections over the coming days.
- National warnings issued by Met Éireann and the UK Met Office have expired, but local weather observations showed heavy falls in areas outside the alerts, for example Carlow recorded about 57 mm of rain.
- Met Éireann says today will be largely bright with highs near 23C but warns that widespread showers and the chance of thunderstorms are likely to return over the weekend, posing a risk of new local flooding and disruption.
