Heat Holds Until Rare August Front Brings Spotty Storms to Southeast Texas

A brief push of drier continental air should ease humidity and lower overnight lows while seasonal forecasts still favor a warmer-than-normal August.

  • A Heat Advisory covers peak afternoon hours Saturday with highs in the upper 90s and heat-index values between about 107 and 112 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for outdoor activity.
  • Forecast models have edged the weak summertime cold front a bit faster and stronger, raising rain and storm chances to roughly 30–40 percent and concentrating the main window late Saturday afternoon into the evening.
  • Precipitation will be uneven and spotty, with many neighborhoods staying dry while areas north of I-10 face the best chance for heavier, localized totals around 0.25–1 inch and isolated pockets up to 2 inches.
  • Behind the front, drier continental air should bring lower humidity and cooler overnight lows—dew points could fall into the 50s north of Houston and daytime highs may dip into the 70s and 80s for a short period.
  • The relief is expected to be brief because the NWS Climate Prediction Center still favors above-normal temperatures for August, and the Atlantic remains quiet with no immediate tropical threats.
