Overview
- High temperatures on Saturday produced visible bulging and other pavement defects on the A13 near Duben–Freiwalde and on the A1 between Bargteheide and Bad Oldesloe, officials and traffic monitors said.
- On the A13 the speed limit has been cut to 30 km/h and the left lane closed while the Autobahnmeisterei inspects the damaged asphalt and decides on repairs.
- On the A1 an emergency northbound lane closure is in place and the Autobahn GmbH has scheduled a full northbound closure for maintenance from about 20:00 with a planned single‑lane reopening around midnight.
- The ADAC reported roughly 5 kilometres of congestion on the A1 between Ahrensburg and Bad Oldesloe and estimated delays of at least 27 minutes as drivers are routed past damage and over diversion routes.
- The federal Autobahn GmbH says heatwaves act as a stress test for both asphalt and concrete by causing thermal expansion, joint strain and surface bulging, so crews will monitor other stretches for similar failures and carry out targeted night repairs.
