Overview
- Tata AIG's Corporate Health Protection Pulse survey of 748 corporate employees across eight major cities, published Aug. 10–11, found rising healthcare costs have overtaken job security as the leading financial concern.
- Ninety-four percent of respondents said an unexpected medical bill causes acute financial stress, and nearly 75 percent said employer Group Medical Cover alone would be inadequate for emergency hospitalisation.
- The survey shows weak financial buffers: about seven in ten employees said their savings would last six months or less if they lost their job and only 12 percent could manage for more than a year.
- There is a clear protection gap as 84 percent said additional personal health cover is crucial yet 45 percent rely solely on employer GMC, and 88 percent want uninterrupted cover during job changes while only about 40 percent know how to maintain it.
- Tata AIG and commentators urged employers, insurers and policymakers to improve employee awareness of plan features and portable continuity solutions because rising medical costs, limited GMC limits and low savings leave workers exposed.
