Overview
- The suspect, identified as Nivesh Kumar alias Dheela from Sonipat, was stopped near Bandhwari early Tuesday after a tip-off that he planned to fire again at a fashion designer’s office to demand protection money.
- When officers signalled him to halt, police say he fired four shots and two struck the bulletproof vests of an inspector and a probationary inspector before retaliatory fire hit his leg and he was caught.
- Investigators link him to the February shooting outside a fashion designer’s showroom in Sector 26A, which they say was staged to force payment.
- Police recovered a country-made pistol, live and spent cartridges, and a motorcycle at the scene, and they registered a new case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempted murder and under the Arms Act.
- He is the fifth person arrested in the case, and police say he worked for fugitive gangster Deepak Nandal and supplied weapons for recent firings including one in Karnal.
