Overview
- The State Election Commission, which announced the schedule Monday, set nominations for April 21–25, scrutiny on April 27, withdrawals on April 28, polling on May 10, and counting on May 13.
- Ballots will also decide the Rewari municipal council president and members in the committees of Sampla, Dharuhera and Uklana, alongside several panchayat votes held the same day across the state.
- The announcement activated the model code of conduct on April 13, freezing transfers in the poll areas and putting EVM voting in place with NOTA, police deployment and senior observers.
- Reservation rules shape who can run: Ambala’s mayoral post is reserved for a backward class woman, Rewari’s council president for a Scheduled Caste woman, Uklana’s for a general category woman, while Panchkula and Sonipat are unreserved.
- Parties cast the contests as a credibility test for Congress against the ruling BJP, with Congress saying it is fully prepared and the BJP predicting wins in all three, after the BJP took nine of ten mayoral races in March 2025 and holds the current mayor posts here.
