Haryana Seeks CBI Probe Into Ex-Punjab DGP Mustafa’s Son’s Death

The state has asked the Centre to hand the case to the CBI following an FIR based on resurfaced videos.

Overview

  • The Haryana government has reportedly sent a request to the Union Home Ministry for a CBI investigation, with approval pending.
  • An FIR under BNS Sections 103(1) (murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) names Mohammad Mustafa, Razia Sultana, their daughter and daughter-in-law, and a Special Investigation Team led by an ACP is probing the case.
  • Aqil Akhtar, 35, was found dead at his Panchkula home on October 16, and police initially detected no foul play and released the body after a post-mortem.
  • The FIR followed a complaint citing Aqil’s August videos alleging an affair between his father and his wife and a family plot against him, though a later clip appeared to retract some claims.
  • Mustafa and his family deny wrongdoing, assert Aqil struggled with long-term addiction, and say preliminary indications point to a buprenorphine overdose, with viscera test results awaited in an estimated two to three months.
