Haryana Police Reports 8.24% Drop in January Crime, Citing Proactive Operations

Police credit a shift toward intelligence-led, technology-driven policing for the year-on-year declines.

  • Total registered cases fell to 9,492 in January 2026 from 10,115 a year earlier, according to the official data release.
  • Reported rape cases dropped 54.55% to 45, and cases under the SC/ST Act declined 32.91%, with robbery down 77% versus January 2025.
  • Other categories also fell, including burglary by 31%, theft by 23%, snatching by 20%, grievous hurt by 45%, attempt to murder by 29% and murder by 15%.
  • January operations included 17 encounters and 9,561 arrests, with 810 heinous offenders and 450 proclaimed offenders held, plus 191 Arms Act cases and 395 NDPS cases leading to 707 drug-trafficking arrests.
  • DGP Ajay Singhal outlined a Vision-2026 to expand tech-enabled policing as the force reported service metrics such as 115,342 Dial-112 calls with a 92% satisfaction rate, daily deployment at 424 checkpoints and humanitarian aid during the cold wave.
