Haryana DGP Seeks Centre, PWD Orders to Fast-Track Fixes at 251 Road Black Spots

The push seeks permanent engineering solutions at hazardous sites identified by a joint police–transport audit.

Overview

  • DGP O P Singh wrote to MoRTH Secretary V Umashankar and Haryana PWD Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Aggarwal, asking them to direct Project Implementing Units and the NHAI to complete pending rectifications.
  • A joint analysis identified 474 black spots between 2019–20 and 2023–24, with 223 locations already rectified and 251 still awaiting improvement.
  • The letter attributes recurring crashes to delays in road repairs, proper signage, service roads, traffic-calming measures and improved lighting.
  • Nearly 4,000 fatalities were recorded in Haryana from January to October 2025, a toll that prompted earlier advisories to intensify police-led road safety steps.
  • Police describe the initiative as preventive policing driven by data and inter-departmental coordination, with a state scheme offering cashless treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh for accident victims.
