Harry Styles Gives First In-Depth Reflections on Liam Payne’s Death

In an Apple Music interview, he says the loss prompted a reevaluation of how he wants to live.

Overview

  • Speaking to Zane Lowe on March 4, Styles offered his first extended public comments on Payne’s passing and said he initially “really struggled” to discuss it.
  • He described the pressure of grieving in public, saying it felt like people tried to “own part of your grief.”
  • Styles said Payne’s death forced a reset of his priorities, adding that the best way to honor a friend is by “living your life to the fullest”; his fourth album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, is released March 6.
  • Payne, 31, died on Oct. 16, 2024, after a fall from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, where police pronounced him dead at the scene.
  • Argentinian prosecutors said he was incapacitated by substance use before the fall; in February 2025 a court cleared three suspects and kept two in pre-trial detention, with legal proceedings still ongoing.
