Harris County Treasurer Carla Wyatt Arrested on DWI After Officer Found Her Asleep on Texas Highway

The case adds new pressure to an office county leaders moved to dismantle.

Overview

  • Police in Texas City say they found Wyatt’s SUV stopped in the left lane of Highway 3 with the ignition on around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, then booked her on a class B misdemeanor DWI.
  • The probable cause affidavit says she told the officer she was “in heaven,” later said she thought she was in Houston and heading to Galveston, admitted to drinking two glasses of wine, and showed balance problems before declining more sobriety tests.
  • A magistrate set a $3,000 cash or surety bond and her first court setting is June 26 in Galveston County.
  • Her attorney, Christopher Downey, says she committed no crime and will seek the police report, forensic testing, and body and dash camera video.
  • Her record includes a 2023 DWI that was dismissed after a diversion program and a December vehicle-burglary arrest that a grand jury declined to indict in April.
