Harley-Davidson Recalls Nearly 17,000 Softail Bikes for Rear-Brake Defect

Regulators warn of a brake-line routing flaw that can disable rear braking.

Overview

  • Harley-Davidson and federal regulators issued a recall for about 16,994 2025–2026 Softail motorcycles in the U.S.
  • Regulators say the rear brake line can contact the Body Control Module, create a hole, leak fluid, and disable the rear brake.
  • The affected variants are FLHC, FXBB, FXLRS, and FXLRST built between October 2024 and March 2026.
  • Dealers will provide a free remedy that replaces the BCM caddy and hardware and inspects the rear brake line, with damaged parts replaced.
  • Harley-Davidson identified the problem after a March service report on a 2025 FXLRST and paused shipments, and no injuries or deaths have been reported.
