Harford County Marks 10 Years Since Deputies’ Killings With Blood Drive and Fundraiser

The 2016 killings, the agency’s first since 1899, left a legacy of public tributes that evolved into annual service.

Overview

  • A family-organized American Red Cross blood drive honored Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey and Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon, drawing more than 100 sign-ups and described by Sheriff Jeff Gahler as nearly full.
  • The event was held at American Legion Post 17 on Edgewood Road and was scheduled to run until 6 p.m.
  • A separate fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse in Fallston supported the Police Unity Tour, with a contingent from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office set to ride in May.
  • Capt. Mike Schleper said each of the 12 riders must raise $2,100, noting local efforts are about halfway to the roughly $25,000 goal.
  • Dailey and Logsdon were fatally shot by David Evans in and near an Abingdon Panera on Feb. 10, 2016, a tragedy that prompted enduring memorials across the county.
