Overview
- Governor Andy Beshear unveiled signage designating a two-and-a-half-mile stretch of KY-222 as the Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington Memorial Highway.
- The dedication took place in Glendale with family, friends and local officials present and two signs placed at sites meaningful to Pennington.
- Pennington graduated from Central Hardin High School in 2017, enlisted the same year, served with the Army’s 1st Space Brigade at Fort Carson, and was posthumously promoted after dying from injuries sustained in a March attack on U.S. troops at Prince Sultan Air Base.
- The Pennington family announced the SSG Benjamin Pennington Dream Fund through the Central Kentucky Community Foundation to fund local projects that continue his values and memory.
- The highway naming and the new fund build on earlier public mourning in Hardin County, including a large funeral procession, and create lasting, place-based reminders that may channel community grief into support for veterans and local causes.
