Overview
- A night show over the Elbphilharmonie used 900 drones flying up to 120 meters to depict Olympic and Paralympic sports before forming the motto, “Olympia in Hamburg. Eine Chance für alle.”
- The city’s campaign will deploy extensive outdoor advertising and recruit figures including Edina Müller, Horst Hrubesch, Laura Ludwig, Alexander Zverev and Johannes B. Kerner to urge a yes vote.
- Opposition initiative NOlympia submitted 19,423 signatures to seek a critical statement in the official voting materials, surpassing the 10,000 needed for consideration.
- The referendum is set for May 31, with mail voting materials scheduled from April 24, and a January poll showed about 50% support and 41% opposition among Hamburg residents.
- Hamburg is competing with Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia and Munich, plans to present its concept in March and file it with the DOSB on June 4, and the DOSB intends to choose the German candidate in September.
