Hamburg Launches €49 Germanyticket for Residents 67+ Starting May 2026

City officials cast the move as targeted relief from the national fare hike.

Overview

  • Hamburg’s offer applies to residents aged 67 and over and covers local and regional transport nationwide, excluding long‑distance trains.
  • With the standard Deutschlandticket set to rise to €63 in January 2026, the reduced rate provides a €14 monthly discount worth €168 per year, according to officials.
  • The city plans roughly €200 million a year in overall ticket subsidies, with about €6 million attributed to the senior offer from May through December 2026 and around €9 million in 2027.
  • HVV says current subscribers who are at least 67 will be switched automatically to the lower rate and projects roughly 4,500–6,000 new subscribers on top of the 78,000 seniors who already have a pass.
  • Critics in the CDU and Left parties, senior advocates, and the taxpayers’ association call the discount and age threshold insufficient and push for a €29 price or eligibility from 65 while questioning universal age‑based subsidies.
