Hamburg Court Sentences Two to 5.5 Years for Port Cocaine Smuggling

The case shows how smugglers exploited routine port access to move a near‑ton load in plain sight.

Overview

  • The Landgericht Hamburg on Friday sentenced Steven P., 37, and Tomas H., 22, to five and a half years each for aiding cocaine import and dealing.
  • The men entered the O’Swaldkai terminal in port work clothes with valid entry cards and drove a rented Ford Transit up to deck 6 of the ship Grande Argentina.
  • They collected 468 blocks of cocaine into bags, delivered them to unknown recipients on Möllner Landstraße, then were told by phone to return for more.
  • Port employees shut the terminal exit during the second run, customs stopped the van and seized another 472 blocks weighing over 400 kilograms, and officers arrested both men.
  • Judges credited full confessions and money hardship, prosecutors had asked for longer terms, possible links to organized crime were noted, and the verdict is not yet final.
