Overview
- A relative discovered 60-year-old Vanessa Sturtevent dead inside her Sterling Glen Apartments home in Lumberton and police opened a homicide investigation.
- The Burlington County Medical Examiner found stab wounds to Sturtevent’s head and neck and blunt force trauma to her face and head and ruled the death a homicide.
- Investigators identified 40-year-old Jason Mutschler of Hainesport as a suspect and brought him in for questioning at the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
- New Jersey State Police arrested Mutschler and prosecutors formally charged him with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
- Authorities from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and Lumberton Township Police say the investigation is ongoing and a detention hearing will be scheduled in Superior Court in Mount Holly.
