Hahn Seeks Probe of Torrance Gun Store Tied to Alleged White House Correspondents’ Dinner Shooter

Hahn cites state gun-trace data linking the chain to thousands of crime guns.

Overview

  • Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn asked District Attorney Nathan Hochman on Wednesday to investigate the Turner's Outdoorsman in Torrance that allegedly sold the shotgun used in the case, and news outlets have sought comment from the DA, the city and the retailer.
  • Her letter cites California Department of Justice trace records showing nearly 8,000 crime guns statewide from 2022 to 2024 were first sold by Turner's locations, including 624 traced to the Torrance store.
  • Hahn is urging Torrance leaders to adopt stricter local rules that ban .50-caliber sales, set buffer zones near schools, bar minors from gun stores, and require security cameras, weekly inventory reports and fingerprint logs.
  • Prosecutors have charged Cole Allen with attempting to assassinate the president and other firearm offenses, and he is scheduled to be arraigned on May 11.
  • During the April 25 checkpoint breach at the Washington Hilton, gunfire wounded a Secret Service agent, according to law enforcement sources.
