Habitual Thief Arrested After Rs 1 Crore Burglary in South Delhi

Dense CCTV analysis plus local intelligence led police to the suspect and recovery of most stolen valuables, prompting an active probe into his disposal network.

Overview

  • Police registered an e-FIR after a Pamposh Enclave house was burgled and valuables worth about Rs 1 crore were reported missing, with the complaint filed on Wednesday, May 20.
  • Investigators scanned footage from more than 250 CCTV cameras and tracked the suspect’s movement across nearly 10 kilometres to build leads for a raid.
  • Officers raided a Madanpur Khadar hideout on May 22 and arrested 28-year-old Sanwara Gujjar alias Sunil, who police say confessed and guided them to the loot.
  • The team recovered a substantial portion of the stolen items, including a diamond watch valued at about Rs 12 lakh, a Tag Heuer worth about Rs 3 lakh, several pieces of diamond and gold jewellery, and Rs 3.57 lakh in cash.
  • Police say the accused used daytime recce and occasional work as a gardener to identify locked houses, and an earlier theft case with a non-bailable warrant issued on April 10 is now being linked as investigators chase receivers and pursue legal action.
