Overview
- The flyover was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday and the structure links Cycle Factory (Garbhanga) to Lalganesh in Guwahati.
- The elevated deck is 2.8 kilometres long, has three lanes, cost Rs 376 crore to build and was completed in 26 months by contractor Bharatiya Infra Projects against a 30‑month deadline.
- Officials allowed pedestrian access for two days after inauguration and said vehicular traffic will begin on Sunday, May 24, while lower‑level works such as the six‑metre service road and two‑metre RCC drains will take about 45 more days to finish.
- Residents and commuters say the road beneath the flyover is badly damaged with potholes, mud and waterlogging that cause frequent minor accidents and they are pressing authorities for immediate repairs to restore safe ground‑level access.
- The government named the link for Syama Prasad Mookerjee, called the project the completion of PWD’s flyover programme in Guwahati and announced reserved space and short extensions for future lanes to ease event traffic near Barsapara stadium.
