- Commercial operations began on February 22, 2026 at LGBIA’s integrated terminal, expanding annual handling capacity to 13.1 million passengers.
- The launch featured a ceremonial first boarding pass and the first arrival by an Akasa Air flight from Mumbai, alongside cultural performances and a lamp-lighting ceremony.
- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and AAHL director Jeet Adani attended the start of operations; the airport is run by Adani Airport Holdings via its GIAL subsidiary, with Sarma citing a Rs 50,000 crore investment pledge.
- The activation followed live trials across check-in, baggage, security and aircraft turnaround, with Digi Yatra–based processing, integrated wayfinding and centralised communication now in service as retail and F&B roll out in phases.
- Guwahati currently connects 21 domestic cities and three international routes and handles over 130 daily aircraft movements, with the new terminal’s regionally inspired design by architect Nuru Karim incorporating extensive bamboo elements.
