Guwahati Airport Returns Unattended Bag Containing Over Rs 10 Lakh in Foreign Cash

Officials said verification through CCTV footage, bag labels, medicine strips led to a controlled handover following coordination with Hyderabad authorities.

  • CISF officers spotted the unattended bag in the Automated Tray Retrieval System during routine screening on June 26, secured it and handed it to the airport Lost and Found team.
  • Airport staff found US$10,720, 175 Chinese yuan, medicines and personal items inside the bag, with one report valuing the cash at more than Rs 10.14 lakh.
  • The passenger was identified from the name on the bag and details on medicine strips, and CCTV review showed the person had already boarded a flight to Hyderabad.
  • LGBI’s Lost and Found team worked with CISF and Hyderabad airport authorities to trace the traveller and, after prescribed verification, handed the bag to an authorised representative.
