Overview
- The mural, presented Monday, faces a Guinness review on Sunday, May 24 for the title of largest historical football mural painted entirely with brush.
- Set along Avenida Centenario, the piece spans more than 200 square meters and took about 90 days to complete using acrylic paint applied only with brushes.
- The artwork traces the sport from the Mesoamerican ballgame to modern football and features the Angel of Independence, the Basilica of Guadalupe, Bellas Artes, and the Azteca, Jalisco, and Monterrey stadiums.
- Mayor Janecarlo Lozano frames the project as public policy to recover space and build community identity, paired with over a kilometer of new lighting, green areas, and a “Sendero de Paz.”
- Led by artist Carlos Alberto Badillo Cruz with a team of Mexican painters, the free-to-view mural is meant to be cared for by local residents and to draw visitors expected for the 2026 World Cup.
